The Woman Who Grew Sunshine. Original Painting

My mom spent many years creating the most beautiful garden in Ukraine. There were fruit trees, vegetables, sunflowers, daisies, echinacea, rudbeckia — flowers growing in every little corner. It was the kind of garden where you could feel love in everything around you.

When the war in Ukraine started, she had to leave her home and move to Germany.

Now she lives in a cozy apartment in the middle of the city.

She takes long walks through local parks and often sends me photos of flowers and gardens she discovers there.

But even from far away, I can feel how much she misses her garden.

Every spring, when I plant flowers in my own yard,

I think about my mother’s Ukrainian garden. I plant her favorite flowers — echinacea, rudbeckia, sunflowers, daisies — almost like keeping a small piece of home alive for her.

This painting is filled with that feeling.
And I hope when you look at her, you will think about your own mother too.
